Collective bargaining agreement for public service

The collective bargaining agreement in the countries is particularly remarkable because it takes particular account of employees in low wage groups and also brings about numerous structural improvements. The result roughly translates into an 8% increase in pay scales and structural improvements, which in the end meant a further 1% ("8 + 1%"). However, it must be taken into account that the period of the increases extends over 33 months (2.75 years).

The result was preceded by strikes in the university clinics in Hesse and Bavaria, in the social and educational service and in the senate administrations in Berlin as well as in public services in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Baden-Württemberg.

Some results in detail:

  • Salary increases in three steps of 3.2 percent (1.1.2019), 3.2 percent (1.1.2020) and 1.4 percent (1.1.2021). By 1.1.2021 at least by a total of 240 euros (term 33 months)
  • Increase in training and internship pay in two steps by 50 euros (1.1.2019) and 50 euros (1.1.2020)
  • Increase of salaries in nursing care by an additional 120 euros
  •  Increase of the adjustment allowance ("Angleichungszulage ") for teachers by 75 to 105 Euro
