More money for DW?

More money for DW?

In 2017, Deutsche Welle's budget totalled almost 326 million. Of this amount, over 298 million was attributable to ongoing operations and over 27 million to capital expenditure. Additional project funds of approx. 10 million € came from various ministries, the majority from the Federal Foreign Office budget. Further project funding was allocated to the DW Academy.

The budget for 2018 is roughly the same as 2017. 300 million will go into ongoing operations. Investment funds have fallen, with an additional 5 million for the development of a Turkish programme and 2 million for cultural programmes. It is not yet known how much additional money the federal ministries of Deutsche Welle (including the DW Academy) will approve in 2018 (project funding).

According to government plans, the federal subsidy for Deutsche Welle is to be increased from the budget of Monika Grütters (CDU), Minister of State for Culture, to 350 million euros in 2019. In addition, DW is to receive project funds from the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
